Claustrum

A gray matter lamina located underneath the inner NEOCORTEX lateral to the PUTAMEN and medial to the INSULAR CORTEX. It is considered to be a part of the basal ganglia. Extensive claustral projections exist to most cortices and subcortical structures including the AMYGDALA, the CAUDATE NUCLEUS, the HIPPOCAMPUS and the THALAMUS.
